The first part is on the wide, gently rolling A61 as far as Ripley, and
will favour pure power. The second part takes in the Nidderdale villages
of Birstwith and Hampsthwaite, and involves descents to the river Nidd,
with climbs the other side. The final part to Harrogate is on the A59
then A61, and is straight and fairly flat except for the hill on the way
into town.
The Dutch team took first, second, and third place at the 2018 Worlds,
and they are likely to be the strongest contenders for the 2019 World
title. Lisa Klein of Germany and British champion Alice Barnes will be
hoping to upset the Dutch dominance.
Lucinda Brand comes into the Dutch team after Ellen van Dijk fell
into a ditch and broke her collarbone in July.
In 2019, Brand won the Dutch national Cyclo-cross Championships, was
fourth in the time trial at the Nationals, and was third in the
European Championships time trial.
