Cycling in Yorkshire
The elite women's individual time trial at the UCI 2019 Yorkshire Worlds takes place on Tuesday 24th September 2019. The route from Ripon via Nidderdale to Harrogate is 30km. The best spots for watching the event are likely to be the start at Ripon, the climbs away from the river Nidd, and the finish at Harrogate.
Ripon Market Place will be a hive of activity as one by one, the competitors take to the start ramp.
There'll be a chance to see the competitors preparing and warming up. Arguably, there's more tension and atmosphere at the start of a time trial than at the finish.
As a city, Ripon has welcomed the World Championships, and is looking forward to hosting this event. It should be a great day.
Anyone watching on the A61 south of Ripon should get some good photos, especially on the long straight across Bishop Monkton Moor.
An advantage of watching at Bedlam, though, would be the reduced pace as the riders come up the hill. That should give you a bit more time to line up a great shot, and capture the effort and pain.
I imagine this will be a day when the people who live in Birstwith come together and celebrate the event. There are likely to be decorations and a festive atmosphere.
Some may just watch from their front gardens, and others might go part way up Elton Hill, the 14% climb out of the village.
Hampsthwaite is another of the Nidderdale villages on the route.
The best atmosphere will be in the village itself, while there may be a better chance of getting really good photos of the competitors as they head out of Hampsthwaite up Grayston Plain Lane.
The elite women's individual time trial doesn't include any laps of the Harrogate circuit - it's just up Parliament Street to the West Park finish line.
Still, there's an opportunity to combine watching live and seeing the TV coverage on big screens in the fan park on West Park Stray.
