Yorkshire Festival 2014

The Yorkshire Festival will run from 27th March to 6th July 2014. It is a festival of free cultural events in the 100 days leading up to the Tour de France in Yorkshire. The Festival is organised by Welcome to Yorkshire, with sponsorship and funding from Yorkshire Water, the National Lottery, and Arts Council England.
There are 47 main projects which make up the events of the Festival, plus more which are part of the Fringe. See the Yorkshire Festival brochure. These are some of the highlights.
Highlights of the Yorkshire Festival 2014
The Woolly Bike Trail
Cassandra Kilbride makes crocheted street art, and she is creating ten woolly bikes, with the help of people who attend workshops in various Yorkshire towns. The finished works will be displayed from 3rd July 2014 in Sheffield, then they will be placed in different positions along the Woolly Bike Trail route.

Nick O' Connor will perform Jacques Brel's songs, and reveal more about Brel through film and monologue.
Tour de Cinema

In thirty locations across Yorkshire, films about cycling will be shown outdoors. Films include Alan Bennett's BBC film 'A Day Out', about a Halifax cycling club.
The Tour de Cinema begins at Bradford Cathedral (27th March to 7th April 2014). Other locations include:

The Grand Departs, Mytholmroyd, 5th April 2014
Cyclists will pull a grand piano up Cragg Vale, England's longest continuous climb, while the piano is played by professional and amateur pianists. Brilliant! Starts at 12 noon.
Art and Yorkshire, from Turner to Hockney, Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate, 12th April to 12th October 2014
Paintings, photos, and sculptures influenced by Yorkshire. Includes works by JMW Turner, and David Hockney, on display at the Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate.
Thomas Houseago sculptures, Leeds Art Gallery and Yorkshire Sculpture Park, 30th April to 6th July 2014
Two monumental scupltures from the Leeds-born artist Thomas Houseago (now based in America), one in Leeds, and one in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Cold Bath Slow Art, Cold Bath Road, Harrogate, 7th June 2014
Slow Art installations on Cold Bath Road, drawing attention to the benefits of sustainable travel.
Le Grand Voyage, Harrogate theatre, 7th June & 5th & 6th July 2014
Wear video goggles and headphones, and experience the sights, sounds and smells, as you cycle through outer space, and along the ocean floor.
